Biography / Biographie
Audrey Armand was born in 1979 in Reims, France.
She lives and works between Paris and Reims.
Audrey Armand entered the Paris école des Beaux-Arts (School of Fine Arts) at the age of 19, where she met Lesly Hamilton and Christian Boltanski.
During her time there she developed her work around photographic and sound installations, exploring her own personal universe derived from an education grounded in spiritual faith, supernatural research and religious practice, and whose ideals, symbolic representations and limits she was to explore in her first works.
The weight of this legacy and its tangible links to reality led to a more personal interpretation of the world, of both colours and the senses. This affectionate distancing gave rise to a fertile questioning of the imaginary, and a certain poetic disillusion.
She graduated from the Beaux-Arts with her diploma in 2003, and continued her research in personal projects or works related to her various encounters, commissions or travels. She showed regularly, with projects in both France and abroad.
Her ongoing research has led her to develop other aspects of her work that are linked to her own personal history. Thus in 2006 she spent several months reimmersing herself in the atmosphere of her parents’ home. She interrogated the closed universe of the family unit and its relationship to the outside world through an observation and deciphering of the physical space : the house, the garden and the immediate neighborhood. Like a chemical process applied to time (revealing, fixing …) different layers of memory interact to express the sensitivity of her relationship to a reality that is at once familiar and disturbing. With their paradoxical erasing and willfully disrupted apparitions, the resulting images propose unstable visions in which the eye is delivered up to its own intuition.
Three works came out of this period of research : an installation entitled « Dobra Noc, Moja Kochana... »(« Good night, my love... »), a photographic series called « Le jardin de mes parents » (« My parents’ garden »), as well as « ma maison voisine » (« my neighboring house »), an artist’s book published by Filigranes Editions.
Since 2008, she has undertaken a new phase of research in the wake of the themes previously approached, developing new forms (16 mm films, video...) in order to take this sensitive exploration to a deeper level.
In February 2010, after a residency of two years art the Cité internationale des Arts in Paris, she again set off on the traces of her past. It was in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina that she created her most recent artist’s book, “Miracle-Oracle” (Filigranes Editions), a project that had been maturing over a period of ten long years…
Since July 2008 she has been represented by the KunstBüroBerlin gallery in Berlin (Germany), where she is notably preparing a one-woman exhibition for 2012.

Elle entre à l’école des Beaux-Arts de Paris à 19 ans, où elle rencontre Lesly Hamilton et Christian Boltanski.
